Now shoot me!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We do not want to demoralise them, but we shall play our vanguard role as always and say what needs to be said; we do not mind if we provoke them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br> Let us begin with Maame Foriwa (Foowah), my maternal grandmother and her \u2018Kabsort\u2019, a corrupted word for Kaba with slit. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br> I used to iron them for her as a young boy. In fact, she taught me how to iron them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br> It took some time \u2013 I don\u2019t remember how many weeks or months \u2013 before she could trust me with her Kabsort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>  I remember her favourite blue Christian Mothers\u2019 Association Kabsort with a cape which I used to iron, was placed on her coffin at the Martyrs of Uganda Catholic Church, Mamprobi. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"700\" height=\"405\" src=\"https:\/\/writersghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG-20190317-WA0019.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3211\" srcset=\"https:\/\/writersghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG-20190317-WA0019.jpg 700w, https:\/\/writersghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG-20190317-WA0019-300x174.jpg 300w, https:\/\/writersghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG-20190317-WA0019-425x246.jpg 425w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><figcaption>&#8216;Ehiko&#8217;, Ga, to wit, not approved.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br> It was handed over to Gloria Ekua Boham, my sister, fulfilling a church tradition that encouraged young ladies to dress modestly and decently like that, and hopefully win their membership into the association. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br> The Kaba with slit has the Kaba or top piece usually sewn from print cloth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> The slit was just about the same dimension as the cover cloth, except that it had bigger hemming at the edges to distinguish it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br> And finally, there was a cloth sewn into a long rope about the length of the cloth, used as a cincture to fasten the slit to the waist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"254\" height=\"198\" src=\"https:\/\/writersghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/images-22.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3199\"\/><figcaption>&#8216;Saam\u0254&#8217;, Ga, to wit, fix it properly.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br> When worn the Kaba was fitted but loose; not tight; same for the slit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br> Any man or woman who ties a cloth to his or her waist will have a straight appearance \u2013 no curves showing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Try it if you doubt me. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br> So with these tightly-sewn Kaba with slit, showing big bums, big bellies, cleavages and thighs that must be hidden; we have a &#8220;new system&#8221; and it is distasteful. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br> Of course we know the Amen Corner has grown larger and more vocal; those who were trained to become leaders are sadly following the unenlightened and infra dig excesses of the rank and file.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"275\" height=\"183\" src=\"https:\/\/writersghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG-20190317-WA0020.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3207\" srcset=\"https:\/\/writersghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG-20190317-WA0020.jpg 275w, https:\/\/writersghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG-20190317-WA0020-272x182.jpg 272w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 275px) 100vw, 275px\" \/><figcaption>&#8216;M\u025bny\u0254&#8217;o kataaa&#8217;, Ewe, to wit, Not good at all.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br> Doesn\u2019t advertising and branding give us something to aspire to? So there can be no populist race to the bottom in this debate. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is a matter of pride for Ghanaian women \u2013 ladies \u2013 to wear the Kabsort. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br> If you were in a church women\u2019s fellowship or attended boarding school, you learnt to wear it properly and with pride.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"183\" height=\"275\" src=\"https:\/\/writersghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG-20190317-WA0018.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3209\"\/><figcaption>&#8216;Ooho&#8217;, Fante, to wit, Not good&#8230;..cannot be approved.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br> Yes, perhaps with a more updated silhouette, but certainly not tight tight &#8211; mirroring the aesthetic of skin tight jeans\u2026..<em>haaba<\/em>. Did you?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Can we not draw the line somewhere?
