Col. David Benedict Quayson, Senior Minister, Methodist Church, Ghana Armed Forces. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br> The first hymn was \u201cAnd Can It Be\u201d by Charles Wesley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br> \u2018Did Christ really die for me?,\u2019 Very Rev. Lt. Col. Quayson put those words into Charles Wesley\u2019s mouth. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br> He inferred, extrapolated, theorised that statement from Charles Wesley himself when the hymnist employed repetition thrice with the words \u201cfor me, for me, for me\u201d. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"715\" height=\"445\" src=\"https:\/\/writersghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/51375800_2206864429629434_531189005274841088_n-e1548951268987.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2768\" srcset=\"https:\/\/writersghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/51375800_2206864429629434_531189005274841088_n-e1548951268987.jpg 715w, https:\/\/writersghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/51375800_2206864429629434_531189005274841088_n-e1548951268987-300x187.jpg 300w, https:\/\/writersghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/51375800_2206864429629434_531189005274841088_n-e1548951268987-425x265.jpg 425w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 715px) 100vw, 715px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br> \u2018It was a moment of personal discovery and salvation,\u2019 declared Lt. Col Quayson. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8216;Even though Charles Wesley was an ordained minister of the Church of England, he had no peace and joy in his heart.\u2019 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br> That moment when Wesley was riding on horseback on his way to preach and this hymn came to him, that moment when he discovered his own truth from the over 5000 hymns he had written, seemed to mark a turning point in the preacher&#8217;s life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> <br> The host of the programme, having gained the best of Methodist theology and training, in addition to the best of military discipline, provided an excellent systematic theology approach. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"680\" height=\"340\" src=\"https:\/\/writersghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Ayawaso-West-Wuogon-by-election-violence-2-680x340.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2769\" srcset=\"https:\/\/writersghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Ayawaso-West-Wuogon-by-election-violence-2-680x340.png 680w, https:\/\/writersghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Ayawaso-West-Wuogon-by-election-violence-2-680x340-300x150.png 300w, https:\/\/writersghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Ayawaso-West-Wuogon-by-election-violence-2-680x340-425x213.png 425w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 680px) 100vw, 680px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br> He explained that Wesley had benefited from the Aldersgate tradition which informed his hymnology, but it was sober personal reflection that changed Charles Wesley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br> Hymns and Their Meanings is sung in traditional solemn church choral music style; no \u201cabonsem\u201d, (Fante, to wit, clapping and dancing); the organ is the only accompaniment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br> It is solemn and the production format has remained the same over the years; an intro hymn with a preamble as the music fades into the background, a well researched history of the circumstances during which the hymns were composed and some background of the hymnist. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The choir, the conductor and organists then render one or two verses after which the host gives further reflections and then the last verse is sung. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br> Within 30 minutes, from 7:30-8:00 every Sunday morning, one is spiritually uplifted and absorbs so much information. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br> Being a post production recording, GBC chooses the relevance of the production to suit some occasion, say, Easter. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"470\" height=\"684\" src=\"https:\/\/writersghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/727634939_36269.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2770\" srcset=\"https:\/\/writersghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/727634939_36269.jpg 470w, https:\/\/writersghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/727634939_36269-206x300.jpg 206w, https:\/\/writersghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/727634939_36269-378x550.jpg 378w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 470px) 100vw, 470px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> It is therefore not too farfetched to infer, extrapolate, and theorise The Very Rev.
