ask anyone who has been declared a winner on election night.<\/p>\n<p>The television set is a very powerful medium of communication; ask any 40 year old American about Sesame Street.<\/p>\n<p>So whilst we congratulate the directors and founders of Pre-Vas TV, we shall ask many questions for their reflection.<\/p>\n<p>The owners have their religious and ethnic biases- which one will hold sway?<\/p>\n<p>Will they be able to transcend both?<\/p>\n<p>Will the financial motive be the overriding consideration that determines content?<\/p>\n<p>On the occasion of the start of transmission, Sylvanus Amartey, the founder has summarised his vision as follows;<\/p>\n<p>\u2018According to His promises we are looking forward to the new heaven and new Earth where righteousness is to dwell &#8211; a new and better way of looking at the world?<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1473\" src=\"https:\/\/writersghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/PREVAS-4-300x134.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"134\" srcset=\"https:\/\/writersghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/PREVAS-4-300x134.jpg 300w, https:\/\/writersghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/PREVAS-4.jpg 337w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Or will it just mirror what is happening in our society and bid us to accept \u2018the relentless purveyors of mediocrity\u2019 as the only available newsmakers and \u2018celebrities\u2019 in town?<\/p>\n<p>Of course, the occasion lends itself to intense lobbying from prospective employees, show hosts, panelists on current affairs programmes and all those who want to \u2018push their agenda\u2019- political or otherwise.<\/p>\n<p>We want to remind the directors that they have given themselves a great task.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1482\" src=\"https:\/\/writersghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/PREVAS-6-300x158.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"158\" srcset=\"https:\/\/writersghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/PREVAS-6-300x158.png 300w, https:\/\/writersghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/PREVAS-6.png 309w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You have chosen the tagline, \u2018Pre-Vas TV; Nothing But The Truth\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Is the truth an ideal that is not practical- an abstract philosophical concept, or will the truth help Ghana solve its existential problems?<\/p>\n<p>Of course in this age of social media, Pre-Vas TV, a free-to-air Digital Terrestrial Broadcasting channel, based at Teshie First Junction, Accra, will have an instant global reach and coverage.<\/p>\n<p>What will it use its leverage for?<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1483\" src=\"https:\/\/writersghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/PREVAS-5-300x158.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"158\" srcset=\"https:\/\/writersghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/PREVAS-5-300x158.png 300w, https:\/\/writersghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/PREVAS-5.png 309w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Pre-Vas TV has an opportunity to serve as a training school for high quality journalism.<\/p>\n<p>It should not and must not yield to poor and shoddy journalism based on a presenter\u2019s social media following or mass media appeal.<\/p>\n<p>Some years ago, when a political party was struggling in opposition, some Makola Market women shouted at their campaign teams, <em>\u2018Monwr\u0254 coat no ooo monwr\u0254 coat no\u2019<\/em>. \u00a0Transliterated from Twi, this means, \u2018Stop wearing coats or suits on TV\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>They heard it. They analysed it.<\/p>\n<p>And they realized that the spokespersons of their rivals in government wear some \u2018Ghanaian\u2019 clothing for TV shows making them appealing to the masses.<\/p>\n<p>Did I hear someone from the Amen Corner just whisper, \u2018Politics is about numbers\u2019?<\/p>\n<p>I have no response to that.<\/p>\n<p>All I can say is that there is also a race to the bottom in clothing or attire for TV presenters and panelists.<\/p>\n<p>Is the rational a populist frenzy to get a share of the market?<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Underdevelopment has many facets\u2019, my mentor\u2019s lessons flash back to memory when required.
